McCartney Amazes
I’ve been to a lot of concerts (see this Google doc for the full list) and seen a lot of entertainment at tech shows over the years. Tech conferences are not the best place to see a show, since it’s usually not the band’s core audience and the venues often are mediocre. When I heard that Paul McCartney would be the the musical guest at HP Discover, I was excited for the...

Steel Coasters
I wouldn’t say that I’m a fanatic, but I do like a good roller coaster. I prefer steel coasters to the wooden ones, mostly because I am tall and the vibration of the wooden ones usually give me too much whiplash. I finally got to go on the #1 Steel Coaster according to a number of websites - Bizarro (formerly Superman) at Six Flags New England (Riverside). Here are my favorites:

World Business Forum Blogger's Hub Twitter List
A friend of mine has a new Twitter app called MixTweet. He was nice enough to take the Blogger’s Hub list and create a group. Below is an example of what you can do with a widget. You can also watch the steam of our activity at http://mixtweet.com/57889890.
I will be posting blogs from the conference at http://blogstu.wordpress.com/tag/wbf09. The hashtag for the conference is #WBF09.

Courtesty of Global Knowledge at Cisco Live 2009
Blog Stu goes to Wordpress
After receiving some positive feedback and finding some time during vacation, I’ve launched a new blog site.
The new site it http://blogstu.wordpress.com and will be my primary blog site. I will keep this Tumblr site and will continue to post or share items here occasionally, especially those that are less “work” related.
It took 5 years for Google to remove the beta label...

FCoE Network perspective
My final video from Cisco Live 2009 is the second of two discussions that I had with Kash Shaikh about FCoE.
If you have any suggestions for additional topics about FCoE that can be covered in a future video, blog post or updated whitepaper, please let me know.

Cisco Live 2009 Social Media Wrapup
Here is the third and final installment of the Cisco Live Daily Blogger Techminute
As you can probably tell from watching these, we had fun making them (and were usually working on a very tight schedule).
After this final video shoot, Cisco also had a blogger reception. To my surprise, since the event was held in Silicon Valley’s back yard, there were a number of social media...

Cisco Live Day 2 & Social Media
I’ve been really impressed with Cisco Live - most of the people attending are very focused on training and certifications; most will take the free T-shirts, but that’s secondary to the knowledge. Here is the second Techminute with the bloggers:
As you might be able to see in the video - all of the bloggers are pretty passionate about some of the technologies being discussed. ...

Cisco Live Day 1 videos
Over ten thousand people descended on the Moscone Center in San Francisco. It’s fantastic weather here this week and since the Moscone Center spans a few buildings, people get a few glimpses of daylight in between classes, keynotes and pavilion hours.
I had the opportunity to shoot 2 videos with Cisco on the first day.
First I sat down with Kash Shaikh to discuss FCoE. With the T11...

The Summer of FCoE
Now that the FCoE standard has hit the next milestone by being approved by T11, there has been an increase in requests for information on FCoE. Next week, I will be attending the Cisco Live! conference in San Francisco.
At the conference, I will be giving mini-presentations at the EMC booth (Booth #436) on the Evolution of the SAN which in 5 minutes gives a taste of how FCoE allows for a...

IDs, Vanity URLs and YOUR NAME
With the recent rush for vanity URLs on Facebook, I’ve had a number of discussions about User IDs and vanity URLs on the various social media sites.
Hopefully the proliferation of accounts/profiles will end soon with OpenID, Facebook Connect, Google Friend Connect and other initiatives. Until then, here are my thoughts on the topic:
The most important thing on these sites isn’t...

Tweetup or Meeting Connections
I’ve been on Twitter for over a year now. For the first few months that I was on Twitter, all of the connections that I made were with people that I did not know outside of Twitter. Over time, there have been a number of people that I know that joined Twitter and there were some people that I met in person and then connected on Twitter. There have also been people that I’ve gotten...

Twitter: Important? Urgent?
I had a thread on Twitter with some coworkers this morning about “etiquette” about when it is OK to not go back and read all Twitter activity. It’s a difficult shift in thinking that you should not read everything. The digital age has created way too much clutter for all of us. Many people are still having a hard time managing their email volume (one of my first blog posts was...

EMC World 2009 is done. I’ve had so many people asking for my presentation “Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), iSCSI and the Converged Data Center”, that I got clearance to post up the entire presentation. Here is it is in SlideShare - you can view it here (there is a full screen button to see it bigger), on the SlideShare site, embed it in other places or download it from the...

Here’s a photo of a handful of the bloggers (unfortunately, it’s probably only about 1/3 of the bloggers since everyone is very busy). If you click on the photo and go to Flickr, I’ve tagged everyone with Twitter IDs or website (and you can also see it in a larger format).

EMC World Optimized
Over 7000 attendees, hundreds of sessions and tons of announcements - how to soak it all in? You can’t! But, everyone is always trying to figure out how to absorb more information - check out http://www.emc.com/emcworld2009 - the keynotes have already been posted as well as a number of videos and blogs. EMC World 2009 in Orlando and Beyond
On this blog, I try and refrain from getting too excited, but allow me to say - I love EMC World (which this year is May 18-21 in Orlando). It is probably my favorite work week of the year. Many of us spend up to six months preparing for this week of “the ultimate information exchange”. This will be my seventh year in a row going and I’d like to share a few tips for those that...

Communicating, the ecosystem and "friends"
This week, I’ll be moderating a Twitter for business purposes tutorial at EMC with the help of my coworkers Jamie Pappas and Dave Graham. Here’s a pretty obvious statement, but one that I think is worth repeating - there is so much information out there and people are so busy, that you should never assume that someone knows a piece of teaching or wouldn’t benefit from hearing a...

Clay Christensen Lessons for Social Media
Going into the World Innovation Forum, Clay Christensen was the only speaker whose work I had read (and I spoke of the language of The Innovator’s Dilemma in a post earlier this year). He covered some familiar stories, but also covered a lot of material that was new to me. For some great coverage of his presentation at the conference, check out posts from fellow bloggers Helen Walters at...
