No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible

Hi - thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself and look at the question of why I created this Tumblr blog page.

My name is Stuart Miniman - for details on my work, you can check out LinkedIn.  I don’t intend to discuss work stuff much here, but anyway, I have the standard disclaimer on the side of the page.  I’m 34 years old, work in high tech, and am married with 2 kids (4 year old girl and 2 year old boy).

The “handle” for the site is “nohype”.  I’ve been using the moniker for a couple of years on some websites when I’ve wanted to post anonymously.  Basically, I try to look at issues and attack the underlying problem - not any marketing hype as to why something is the greatest or best.  I thought that it would be a good enough name for a blog as my name is a bit cumbersome for a url (very easy to flip the n’s and m’s).  I’ve put a title of “Blog Stu” at the top of the page as both a reference to The Soup’s “Talk Stew” (so meaty) and that the content will be mixed up batch of topics.

As for why I’m blogging - I’ve found that there are things that I want to share or comment on that are beyond what I can currently do on Twitter and/or Facebook.  I thought I’d go into some more detail in a couple of other posts - while I wouldn’t consider myself either an early adopter of lots of technology or an expert, I do find myself explaining to friends and family about the various tools and websites and thought that a blog would help put things together.  There has been an explosion of all of the tools over the last couple of years and I’m also trying to stay close enough to the various activities that I don’t find myself woefully out of date in a few years.

Here’s a link to a great YouTube video of what my blog should not be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSP8xm_gaK4.  If I’m in danger of doing this - please let me know.

Finally, I got the title of the post from a book on aphorisms.  I don’t expect to be a voracious blogger and know that my comments are just dust in the wind - hope you find some nuggets of useful information.

Please comment, subscribe or drop me a line.
